Atlanta Motorsports Park (AMP), a premier destination for motorsport enthusiasts in Dawsonville, Georgia, is taking a giant leap forward in sustainability. The motorsports club, known for its F1-style road course and adrenaline-pumping karting track, is adding a cutting-edge 358-kilowatt (kW) solar array to its campus, further solidifying its commitment to environmental stewardship.

AMP's new solar farm comprises 747 high-efficiency panels, each generating 480 watts of power. This impressive array, designed and installed by Atlanta-based Hannah Solar, will generate a total of 358 kilowatts (kW) - that's enough energy to power nearly 300 homes! - significantly reducing the park's reliance on traditional energy sources.

“The ability to generate over half of our energy needs through solar pushes us closer to our vision of making AMP's campus its own self-sustaining community and resort,” said Jeremy Porter, CEO of AMP. “We are thrilled at our ability to reduce strain on the local grid while achieving a substantial positive environmental impact.”

    A Commitment to Sustainability

The solar array is part of AMP's broader sustainability initiative, which includes the recent installation of 10 Level 3 DC Superchargers and 8 Level 2 EV chargers, as well as the use of LED lighting, solar-powered CCTV and signage, and efficient water and wastewater treatment systems. These efforts showcase AMP’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and leading the charge for sustainability in the motorsports industry.

Once operational, the solar installation will supply approximately 60% of AMP’s daily energy needs, powering key facilities across the campus, including the karting facilities and the newly constructed, member-exclusive Sky Deck. The system is expected to generate 450,300 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy annually, offsetting 7,312 pounds of CO2 emissions over a 30-year period—equivalent to eliminating over 16.6 million miles of road vehicle travel or planting 109,600 trees, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

“Hannah Solar is thrilled to announce our partnership with Atlanta Motorsports Park (AMP) to implement a cutting-edge solar energy system,” said Joseph Waybright, COO of Hannah Solar. “Jeremy and the team at AMP are dedicated to reducing their carbon footprint through solar and other efficiency technologies, demonstrating the effectiveness of renewable energy in an energy-intensive environment such as a racetrack.”

Looking Ahead: A Brighter Future for Motorsports

The solar array is set to go live in Q3 2024, coinciding with the addition of karting course lighting that will allow events and races to extend into the night. This latest upgrade is part of AMP’s ongoing efforts to enhance its facilities, which now include residential CirCuit Villas and Condos, making the park not just a motorsports venue but a complete weekend retreat for enthusiasts.

By harnessing the power of the sun, AMP is not only improving its energy independence but also paving the way for a more sustainable future in motorsports. With each innovation, AMP continues to honor the rich history of racing while embracing a future that looks brighter—and greener—than ever before.
