He also had one catch for 15 yards receiving in probably one of the best games of his career, but it wasn’t enough to carry the Golden Eagles to a victory as Johnson Central in a heartbreaking loss at home to the Corbin Redhounds, 56-51.Johnson Central wasted little time in flexing its muscles in this Class 4A heavyweight clash.The Golden Eagles received the opening kickoff. On the first play of the game, Johnson Central’s Logan Music broke loose for a 68-yard run to set the Golden Eagles with first and 10 on the Corbin 12-yard line with 11:50 remaining in the first quarter.Then just a couple plays later, Johnson Central struck first as Logan Marrow found the end zone from one yard out. After the good PAT kick, Johnson Central took the lead at 7-0 with 10:17 to play in the first quarter.After being smacked in the mouth right out of the gates, Corbin shrugged it off and also wasted little time as the Redhounds marched the ball right down the field and scored on their first possession of the game. Redhounds’ quarterback Kade Elam hit Colton Creekmore with a 17 yard TD catch, and with the good point after kick tied the game up at 7-7 with 9:19 to play in the first quarter.The Golden Eagles found pay dirt again at the 5:27 mark of the first quarter when the Golden Eagles’ Logan Music rumbled in from one yard out to let the Golden Eagles retake the lead at 14-7 after the PAT kick was good.Again after Johnson Central retook the lead, the Redhounds wasted little time moving the ball down the field.At the 3:24 mark of the first quarter, the Roundhounds tied the game back up at 14-14 after Elam scored on an eight yard TD run and the extra-point kick was good.Johnson Central again got the ball back lined up ran it down the field and just a few plays later the Golden Eagles’ McCoart found the end zone on a six-yard TD run to give the lead back to Johnson Central at 21-14 after a good PAT kick with 11:54 remaining in the second quarter.Here we go again. Corbin gets the ball back, races down the field and scores to tie the game back up again at 21-21 with 11:39 remaining in the second quarter on a 26 yard TD catch by Corbin’s Cam Estep, and a good extra-point kick.Johnson Central regained the lead at the 6:56 mark of the second quarter, after McCoart broke loose and scampered 21 yards for the TD. After on offsides penalty on Corbin on the extra-point play, Johnson Central Coach Jesse Peck made the call to go for two points, and it paid off to put the Golden eagles up 29-21.With the Corbin’s passing game once again lighting up the Johnson Central defense, the Redhounds scored quickly. This time, on a 26 yard TD catch by Corbin’s Creekmore, but with Johnson Central stopping the Redhounds’ two point try, the Golden Eagles still led 29-27 with 5:25 remaining in the second quarter.Then with 2:51 remaining in the second quarter, the Golden Eagles offense made their first big mistake of the game. Johnson Central quarterback Austin Slone’s pass was picked off by Corbin setting the Redhounds up with good field position on their own 45-yard line.As Johnson Central was trying to keep Corbin out of the end zone and take the two point lead into the halftime break, Corbin was having other ideas.With the Golden Eagles’ defense holding their ground and a couple of penalties on the Redhounds, Corbin was facing a third and 18 from the Johnson Central 49-yard line. The Redhounds made the Golden Eagles pay dearly when Corbin’s Noah Cima caught a 49-yard TD pass with 24 seconds remaining in the half to let Corbin take a 35-29 lead over Johnson Central.After a successful two-point conversion try and with Corbin set to receive the second half kickoff, that gave the Redhounds all the momentum heading into the locker room at the half.Corbin got the ball to start the second half and wasted little time to find the end zone as Corbin’s Eli Pietrowski hauled in a 25-yard TD catch. That helped increase Corbin’s lead to 43-29 after a successful two-point try with 10:39 remaining in the third.With both offenses stalling for a spell, believe it or not, but the Golden Eagles defense got a gift when they picked off a Corbin pass with 4:51 remaining in the third quarter. That set up Johnson Central with terrible field position at their own-five yard line.Just a couple plays later, McCoart broke loose for a big 47 yard gain and after tacking on a face mask penalty by Corbin, that set the Golden Eagles up with first and 10 at the Corbin 33-yard line with 3:50 left in the third quarter.Another face mask penalty by Corbin just couple plays later set up Johnson Central with a first and 10 at the Corbin 13-yard line. On the next play, Johnson Central’s Mccoart ran it in from 13 yards out for the TD. After a good PAT kick cut Corbin’s lead to 43-36 with 2:53 remaining in the third quarter.After cutting the lead to seven and getting the momentum back from Corbin, the Johnson Central faithful and Coach Jim Matney Field erupted when the Golden Eagles kicked an onside-kick and recovered the ball. That set up Johnson Central with the ball on the Corbin 48-yard line.Then just a few plays later, the Golden Eagles scored again. This time, on an 18-yard TD run By McCoart, and with the good PAT kick brought Johnson Central all the way back to tie the game 43-43 with 52 seconds remaining in the third quarter.The Redhounds got the ball back and raced down the field and scored on a third and six from the Johnson Central 35-yard line when the Redhounds’ Elam ran for a 35 yard TD. The good extra-point gave the lead back to Corbin at 50-43 with 9:38 remaining in the game.With both teams battling for a spell, Johnson Central chances were on the line with 3:09 remaining and the Golden Eagles facing a fourth and six from the Corbin 40-yard line.The Golden Eagles converted the fourth down and got a gift from Corbin as the Redhounds were called for facemask penalty and Johnson central with first and 10 from the Corbin 19-yard line, but just a few plays later the Golden Eagles cashed in and scored on a two-yard TD run by Music with 2:06 remaining in the game. After the good two-point play, Johnson Central regained the led from Corbin at 51-50.As Johnson Central was looking for one last stop and to hopefully pull out the win, the Redhounds star quarterback Elam broke the souls of the Golden Eagles when he hit Cima with a 27-yard TD pass with 48 seconds left in the game to give the lead back to Corbin at 56-51.With 48 seconds left, the Johnson Central faithful knew there was one last small glimmer of hope left.Johnson Central, with no timeouts left, was trying to get the ball down the field for the winning score. A couple of penalties and mistakes cost the Golden Eagles.Johnson Central was only able to get the ball to midfield on a completed pass with 10 seconds left and the clock still running; Johnson Central was not able to get up and get set as the hopes of the miracle comeback and the clock ran out of time on then Golden Eagles letting Corbin escape with the 56-51 win.Both teams combined for 1,292 yards of offense in the game.Johnson Central had 672 yards of offense and 628 yards of that came on the ground on 69 rush attempts.McCoart led the rushing attack with 40 rush attempts for 415 yards rushing and four rushing TDs. He also had one reception for 15 yards. Music had 12 rush attempts for 121 yards rushing and two rushing TDs. Christian Barnes had 14 rush attempts for 86 yards rushing. Marrow had eight yards and one rushing TD.Johnson Central had 44 yard passing in the game, as sophomore quarterback Slone was three of five passing in the game for 44 yards with one interception.Seth Davis had one reception for 19 yards, and 13 tackles (two for a loss) two sacks, and one interception for Johnson Central.The loss dropped Johnson Central to 5-2 on the season and 1-0 in district play. It also snapped a five-game winning streak for the Golden Eagles.The next game up for Johnson Central at home this Friday, October 11 against the Rowan County Vikings set to begin at 7:30 p.m.Corbin had 620 yards of offense in the game.The Redhounds were led by star quarterback Elam who had 563 yards of total offense and 8 total touchdowns. He was 18/24 passing for 421 passing yards and six passing TDs with one interception. He also had 10 rush attempts for 142 yards rushing and two rushing TDs.Cole Stevens had eight rush attempts for 57 yards rushing, and two receptions for 28 yards for corbin.Noah Cima led all receivers with six receptions for 146 yards receiving and two receiving TD’s he also served as the team’s kicker and was six of six on extra point kicks.Cloton Creekmore had five receptions for 118 yards and two receiving TDs. Cam Estep had four receptions for 104 yards and one receiving TD. Eli Pietrowski had one reception for 25 yards receiving and one receiving TD.With the win Corbin improved to 5-1 on the season. Next up for Corbin is a home game, and first district game of the year this Friday, October 11 against the Letcher Central Cougars set to begin at 7:30 p.m.</div></body>
