Johnson County Democrats invite party for delegate elections
The Johnson County Democrats have issued a statement inviting all registered democrats in the county to join them for the selection of delegates on June 1. The statement said the gathering will be held at 10 a.m. in Tammy Barker’s office, located at 1641 Ky. Rt. 321 in Hager Hill and the delegates selected there will travel to the Democratic State Convention in Louisville on June 15. Officers for the Johnson County Democratic Executive committee will also be selected at the meeting.
KSP: Hagerhill man took video of inappropriate sexual contact with minors
On May 24, a Kentucky State Police investigation led to the arrest of a Hager Hill man on voyeurism and promoting the sexual performance of a minor charges. According to court documents, the investigation began after a concerned mother brought the man’s phone to the Johnson County Department of Social Services and presented video evidence that Jason Campbell, 45, of Industrial Park Road, Hager Hill, had non-consensually filmed himself inappropriately touching and engaging in sex acts with the woman’s minor child. The woman advised a DSS employee that she had discovered a “hidden folder” on the man’s phone with hundreds of images and videos of other juvenile females as well, according to the citation.
Paddlefest kicks off
Prestonsburg and Paintsville Tourism co-hosted the kickoff to Paddlefest on May 25. Kayakers and canoers gathered at the Combs Airport, near the Floyd/Johnson county line, before catching a bus up to River Park behind Billy Ray’s Restaurant in Prestonsburg. From there, the adventurers headed downstream until they again reached Combs Airport, only this time by raft.

This past Monday in the first round of the 15th Region Baseball Tournament at Stonecrest the Johnson Central Golden Eagles took on the Prestonsburg Blackcats. In a game that saw the Blackcats come out to hunt and the Golden Eagles not able to get out of the starting gate as Prestonsburg stunned Johnson Central with a 10-1 win.

Lawrence ruins Johnson Central’s Senior Night
Last Wednesday marked Senior Night for the Johnson Central Golden Eagles’ baseball team. The Bulldogs ruined Senior Night with a 5-3 win. Johnson Central got the scoring going in the bottom of the first after a single and sacrifice bunt led to the Golden Eagles’ Kaleb Callaham hitting an RBI triple to put Johnson Central up 1-0. On the very next at-bat, the Johnson Central lead went to 2-0 on an RBI groundout by Chase Preece.

JCSO: Offutt man refused search, K9 brought in to discover drugs
An Offutt man now faces additional drug trafficking charges after a May 15 K9 search of his vehicle during a public intoxication arrest, according to court documents. The citation said the man, Southie Fannin,44, of Banjo Branch, Offutt, refused to allow Paintsville Police Department officers to search his vehicle while being arrested for public intoxication and possession of marijuana, leading PPD Chief Danny Smith to call in the Johnson County Sheriff’s office for a K9 deployment.
