ARH's Ashley Webb honored by Dream Appalachia
Ashley Webb, Appalachian Regional Healthcare system diabetes education coordinator, was recognized by regional leaders and public officials as one of the “50 Under 50” most outstanding leaders in Johnson, Lawrence, Letcher, Martin, Floyd and Pike Counties at the Dream Appalachia Poverty Conference in Inez in April, according to a statement from ARH.

JCSO: Offutt man refused search, K9 brought in to discover drugs
An Offutt man now faces additional drug trafficking charges after a May 15 K9 search of his vehicle during a public intoxication arrest, according to court documents. The citation said the man, Southie Fannin,44, of Banjo Branch, Offutt, refused to allow Paintsville Police Department officers to search his vehicle while being arrested for public intoxication and possession of marijuana, leading PPD Chief Danny Smith to call in the Johnson County Sheriff’s office for a K9 deployment.
Crist promoted to associate head coach
A longtime assistant coach has earned a promotion with the men’s basketball staff. Sid Crist has been named associate head coach by Coach Tigh Compton. “Sid has proven to be a dedicated, hard-working member of the athletics department and has been invaluable to the success of our basketball program,” Compton said. “We’re pleased to promote him to associate head coach and look forward to continuing to move the program in a positive direction.”

Alleged assailants in antiques store attack indicted
A Johnson County grand jury has indicted four of the five individuals involved in an assault that took place in July of 2023 at an antiques store in Paintsville. According to the court documents, the indictments also list an unnamed minor as having been complicit in the charges, which include second-degree assault, a class C felony that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of no more than $10,000, and first-degree unlawful imprisonment, a class D felony which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of no more than $10,000.

A one-vehicle collision led to the arrest of a Flat Gap woman on charges of alcohol intoxication and leaving the scene of an accident May 10.
