Those who have been following my stories or newsletter for a while will know that I have covered officer Seara Burton extensively.

Two years since she died, she is still remembered.

Wednesday afternoon was no different, as 300 members of the community joined in celebration of the Chester Boulevard Bridge above Interstate 70 being renamed in Burton's honor.

Several major politicians were in attendance and gave speeches, including U.S. Sen. and Indiana gubernatorial candidate Mike Braun, as well as U.S. Rep. Greg Pence.

🎢 Your guide to weekend fun

🚗 It's been an annual summer tradition for several years, and it's back. The Veterans Memorial Car Show, held at Veterans Memorial Park here in Richmond, is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free for the viewing public, all makes and models will be shown, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 entries, and awards will start at 2 p.m. American Legion Riders Post 65 will also have food for sale.

🎬 Classes are back in session, and with them come a lot of fun on-campus events. This Sunday night at Earlham College from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., visit The Heart in campus for a first-run movie. Did I mention it includes popcorn and candy?

🎭 "It's the tail end of the big, bad 1980s in Hollywood, and the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace and liquor flow freely at one of the Sunset Strip’s last legendary venues, a place where sex machine Stacee Jaxx takes the stage and scantily clad groupies line up to turn their fantasies into reality. Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing (and longs for small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes). But the rock ’n’ roll fairy tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can Drew, Sherri and the gang save the strip – and themselves – before it’s too late? Only the music of hit bands Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and more hold the answer." If this synopsis by the Richmond Civic Theatre for "Rock of Ages" didn't catch your interest for this weekend's shows, I don't know what will!

A full list of events going on this weekend can be found on the Convention & Tourism Bureau's website and Kicks96's community calendar , as well as Eventbrite, which includes additional events not listed on the bureau's site. Earlham College and Indiana University East also have events throughout the week.
