As part of a statewide media tour ahead of next month's election, Terry Goodin, Jennifer McCormick's running mate, made Richmond the first stop Friday to spread around the word about his campaign.

A former Indiana state representative for parts of Clark, Scott and Jefferson counties, Goodin spoke about how he and McCormick have the ability to work with Republicans across the aisle to find "a Hoosier solution."

Some of the issues, or crises, Goodin said need solutions included the housing crisis, the educational crisis and the health-care crisis.

Another platform point Goodin said he and McCormick are running on includes connecting the center of the state with small, local communities to ensure that it's not just the 10 to 12 counties surrounding Indianapolis benefiting the most.

To see what else Goodin had to say, read here.

📰 What else you should know today:

Attorney shortage: Some towns in Indiana don't have a local lawyer. What is being done by the state to remedy it?

Life sentence: An Indiana man who pleaded guilty to triple homicides when he was 16 has just been sentenced to nearly 200 years in prison.

🔴⚪🔵 State voter guides: Here's a look at the U.S. House and Senate races for Indiana next month.

🏙 Indiana's best small cities: Four cities across the state made WalletHub's list for "Best Small Cities in America." What were they?

🗿 IU unveiling new statue: To honor singer and songwriter John Mellencamp, Indiana University will hold an unveiling event later this month for a new statue.

    👩‍💼 Questions with a community leader 👨‍💼

This week, I interviewed Tai Muldoon, executive director of Girls Inc. of Wayne County. Before becoming executive director, Muldoon was the organization's central manager.

Q: How did you end up in your current role?

I was a Girls Inc. girl when I was younger, and then I worked for the agency for four years. Shortly after, I graduated from high school and loved the job, and when this position came open, I applied to come back because I really believe in what Girls Inc. does for our girls. I know what it did for me personally, and so the opportunity to give back to an organization that gave a lot to me was an opportunity I did not want to miss.

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?

The girls, 100%. I tell people they can fill your cup and drain your cup. It is an exhausting job, but it is a really rewarding job. Having the opportunity to be a part of these girls' lives is by far my favorite. The chance to build relationships with them and know that I'm just a small part of what their future is going to be like is pretty amazing.

Q: What do you enjoy in your free time?

I am a reader, and I also have two little boys and I'm married, so we do a lot of things together as a family. As my personal hobby, it's definitely reading. I can read two to four books in a week. I like books from a variety of different genres. I love the book "The Historian," and then there are things like biographies that I have just loved, and mom-coms. It really just depends on my mood.

Thank you for taking the time to read through today's newsletter. I always appreciate any story tips you may have to better serve you and the city of Richmond. My email address is eweaver@gannett.com and you can follow me on X (@evan_weaver7).

    See you tomorrow.
