Infant mortality rises sharply on First Coast
The First Coast has seen a marked increase in its infant mortality rate . A report released Tuesday by the Northeast Florida Healthy Start Coalition shows infant deaths rising almost 19% from 2022 to 2023, although they have decreased by 8.6% over the past five years. The decline is due in part to fewer deaths from Sudden Unexplained Infant Death Syndrome, or SUIDS.
