HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas ( KETK ) – After damaging storms, the community of Henderson County is rallying together to raise money for storm victims this 4th of July weekend.

‘Pray for no more rain’: Lake Palestine boat owners concerned about boats drifting away

The storm in may, left behind scattered debris, damaged buildings and destroyed boats and RVs in Lake Palestine. The cleanup process has been ongoing.

“We’ve had more help,” said worker and resident at Lake Palestine resort, Ron Hunley. “People have show up just out of the blue to help do everything”

To help this rebuilding process, community members are taking recovery into their own hands by hosting several fundraisers.

“This week we’ve got exciting things going on, we are teaming up with Bella Vista on Thursday the 4th to have a big firework show and beach party there so we’d love to have everybody out,” said Lake Palestine Resort Owner,  Micah Wolfe.

The firework shows and beach party are benefitting the tornado relief fund. Tickets can be found on the Facebook and the webpage of Bella Vista . Lake Palestine Resort is partnering with this event and also holding their own raffle.

“We’ve got a lot of damage that were still cleaning up.” said Wolfe. “Some tree crews are cleaning up right now. So, we’ve still got along ways to go on that.”

FEMA set up a disaster recovery center near the area and many have received help.

“To date we’ve had about 114 people come though the disaster recovery center in Henderson County.’ said FEMA media relationship specialist, Nikki Gaskins Campbell. “That number will rise likely as we see more people walk in the door.”

Recovery efforts may be slow going but residents are in high spirits.
