TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – An East Texas family and investigators need your help after a pregnant woman lost her baby in a hit and run. It’s been two weeks since the crash and police are still looking for the person responsible.

‘Someone out there knows who did this’: Palestine PD investigates hit-and-run involving pregnant woman

Casi Hughes is heading home after she has left in recovery with fractures all over her body, grief and frustration.

“There where so many people around me and I just remember that the only thing I kept saying was like, I need y’all to check on my baby, I need y’all to check on my baby” said Hughes.

Hughes lost her unborn son that day. She was three weeks away from delivery, when she was hit by a car. The driver took off and still hasn’t been found.

“Somebody yelled ‘watch out’ and there was a car there” said Hughes. “Next thing I knew, I was on my back and my husband had my face and my friend April was there, and she was holding my belly, and she was praying over me.”

Police said Hughes was hit at East Palestine Ave when crossing the street with a group of people. It was around 9:30 p.m. on the night of July 3 after a fireworks display.

Hughes had to be flown to a hospital in Tyler. At eight months pregnant she only had one thing in mind, her baby.

“We had a baby shower, his nursery was done and everything was ready to go,” said Hughes

Palestine investigators and Hughes are now searching for the car, the driver and answers. Police said video from the area and leads so far have turned up nothing.

“I just want my baby back, I just want whoever’s reasonable for this to come forward” said Hughes.

After more than 15 days in the hospital and a recovery facility, Hughes now begins a path to recovery and some form of justice.

Palestine Police Department said the vehicle involved was a white or silver passenger car. It likely has damage to the front end and possibly a damaged headlight.

If you know anything call Palestine PD investigators at 903-729-2254.
