Florida Power & Light Company and Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches are partnering to distribute hurricane preparedness meal kits to more than 315 homebound seniors across Palm Beach County on Thursday, June 13. With the start of what is anticipated to be an above average storm season, this effort will help provide vital supplies to seniors in the communities FPL serves. Volunteers from FPL and Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches will help distribute the kits. The hurricane preparedness kits include three days of shelf-stable food, water and snacks for seniors who may not be able to leave their homes or receive home-delivered meals after a storm impacts the area. The kits also include a storm preparedness guide that provides resources for seniors.
Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches aims to nourish and enrich the lives of homebound seniors through delivery of fresh food by a team of dedicated volunteers. The organization has been making deliveries, along with smile and wellness checks, since 2011. On Thursday, June 13, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m, teams will travel to individual homes to complete deliveries to seniors.
FPL is committed to powering strong communities, making them even better places to live, work and raise a family. Since 2016, the company has worked with local community nonprofits to deliver thousands of hurricane kits to help vulnerable seniors prepare for storm season.
