Inmates at the Palm Beach County Jail could be playing cards right now, and helping to solve crimes at the same time.

More than 5,000 decks of playing cards were sent out last month to 60 county jails and 145 prisons in Florida. They feature the photos of 52 victims whose killers have not yet been brought to justice.

Sheriff Ric Bradshaw says if even one case gets solved because of this effort from Attorney General Ashley Moody's office, it will have been worth it.

"When they give these cards out, they (inmates) look at it and they're going to say to themselves, 'If I can help myself, I'll give up the information.' So, it's just an information and lead-gathering thing."

The sheriff says there's probably information that some inmates have that would be valuable to solving investigations.

"Ten percent of the bad guys do 90 percent of the crime. And they all know what's going on. They, not necessarily network but the rumor mill within the bad guys they know 'Joe Blow' did this and this gang over here did this and this gang did this killing. You know, because they like to brag among themselves."

There are more than 20,000 unsolved murders in Florida and the Office of Statewide Prosecution launched a Cold Case Unit earlier this year. Bradshaw stood next to Moody when she made that announcement.
