What went wrong? That's the big question stemming from the assassination attempt on former President Trump in Pennsylvania.

There have been reports that a local cop confronted Thomas Matthew Crooks but failed to stop the shooting.

"It's not the total responsibility of local law enforcement to review what the site is and review what the plan is. That's the Secret Service's job."

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw has done his fair share of working with the U.S. Secret Service whenever Trump leaves Mar-a-Lago to play a round of golf or head to the airport.

"When the advanced teams come down, they check everything. And if there's a place that needs an assignment and they can't fill it, then they ask us to fill it."

He says it all boils down to this...

"It's a matter of communication and a matter of making sure things work right."

Republican lawmakers are demanding the termination of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle. A U.S. House committee will begin investigating on Monday.

    Cheatle has refused to resign.
