JetBlue keeps direct flights to LAX from PBIA, resuming in October

While JetBlue has cut flights across the nation, it will revive nonstop trips between Palm Beach International Airport and Los Angeles during the upcoming tourism season and will offer them for longer than last year.

The first nonstop flights to Los Angeles International Airport will begin Oct. 27, PBIA announced Aug. 7 . JetBlue previously flew between the two airports from Dec. 15 through this past April. Before that, the flights ran all year long from November 2020 through April 2022.

Tickets will cost $119 one way, $236 round trip, depart just after 6 p.m. and take about six hours. The seasonal route ends April 29. JetBlue is the only airline offering nonstop flights between the two airports.

Previously: JetBlue to cancel some flights out of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood. Are more coming?

Like most airlines, JetBlue adds fees for passengers who want to pick their own seats or bring a carry-on bag. At the same time, its airplanes have the most legroom of all big U.S. airlines, with about 32 inches of space, according to analysis by air travel news website Upgraded Points published in January . The airline also says it offers free WiFi on all its planes.

Other airlines offer six-hour nonstop routes to Los Angeles' airport from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Some of those flights take off later at night or around sunrise and can cost more.

Three of four JetBlue flights on Oct. 27 from Fort Lauderdale cost $254 to $389, with departure times of 6:55 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 5:15 p.m. and 8:55 p.m., a search of Google Flights on Tuesday afternoon showed. A Delta Air Lines flight on Oct. 27 departs at 7:55 a.m., costing $161 one way.

JetBlue suspended its PBIA-LAX nonstop in April 2022 after nearly 18 months of service four times a week. JetBlue officials attributed the cutback to the high price of fuel at that time. Fuel costs had spiked after the Russian invasion of Ukraine two months prior.

JetBlue has also been cutting routes and service nationwide since a federal judge in March blocked its $3.8 billion bid for Spirit Airlines. PBIA counted almost 36,000 fewer departures by the airline in the 12 months ending in June than the prior year. But JetBlue has not cut routes to and from the airport.

And before that: JetBlue nonstop flight between LAX and West Palm Beach to stop temporarily

It's the only major airline whose market share in PBIA has fallen. About 25% of passengers flying out of the airport flew JetBlue in the 12 months ending in June, down from 28% the prior 12 months.

A list of all nonstop flights to and from PBIA can be found online at PBIA.org/airservice .
