Audience poll: Who's the No. 1 high school football team in Florida after a chaotic Week 1?

We’ve only had one official weekend of high school football, but the state rankings are about to undergo a massive overhaul.

Why?

Because six of the top 10 teams in the USA Today Florida Network Super 25 lost in Week 1.

IMG Academy , Chaminade-Madonna, St. Thomas Aquinas, Plantation-American Heritage, Miami Central and Berkeley Prep all fell over the weekend.

Which begs the question: Who should be the No. 1 team in the state?

Before you blurt out the school you’re passionate about, a couple things to consider as far as the rankings go.

How much do you punish a team for playing elite competition? IMG, Chaminade-Madonna, St. Thomas Aquinas and American Heritage all lost to nationally ranked opponents. According to the national rankings, the only upset in the group was IMG (No. 2 USA Today Super 25), which lost 35-34. to Corner Canyon (No. 16) in Utah. Central and Berkley Prep both lost to teams ranked in the USA Today Florida Network top 25, so it’s not like they got stunned by inferior opposition.

How much do you reward wins and losses? Ok, it’s an odd question but it’s worth asking because so much of rankings involve the eyeball test: Do you think Team A beats Team B? Or, do you simply say that Team B is better because they’re 1-0 and Team A is 0-1? Does Cocoa, Mandarin, Lakeland, Venice or Armwood deserve the top spot in part because they're undefeated?

Both arguments are valid, which leads back to the original question: Who is No. 1?
