Is Michelin-starred Nobu coming to PBC? Buzz grows after billionaire buys Eau Palm Beach

Could Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa in Manalapan become the next home to a Nobu restaurant?

After all, not only has the prospect of a Nobu restaurant in or near Palm Beach been part of the dining buzz here, but the new owner of Eau Palm Beach Resort, Oracle software billionaire Larry Ellison — who bought the luxe property for $277-plus million earlier this month — has incorporated Nobu into resorts he owns elsewhere.

Ellison clearly has been partial to Nobu, a Michelin-starred restaurant chain known for inventive flavor combinations and high-quality seafood that devotees, including many celebrities, rave about.

Some of Ellison’s resort properties, such as Porcupine Creek in Rancho Mirage, California and Four Seasons Resort Lanai in Hawaii — which he purchased in 2011 and 2012, respectively — have become sought-after Nobu locations, with dining experiences in partnership with Nobu’s renowned Japanese chef Nobu Matsuihisa.

Other Ellison properties in California also have been aligned with Nobu. Is this part of a broader vision of Ellison’s?

In 2018, he co-founded Sensei, which was incorporated into the name of resorts he owns.

Sensei “applies data-driven health knowledge and utilizes technology to create premier wellbeing retreats in Hawaii and California to promote preventative care and healthy lifestyle practices,” Sensei’s website, www.sensei.com , notes.

Ellison plans to make “improvements” to the resort, according to Eau’s sale announcement, but no specifics have been revealed yet.

But might Nobu be coming? Eau officials have told the Daily News on Thursday “no plans” currently exist to change the resort's food-and-beverage outlets.

Those outlets include Polpo, an oceanfront Italian sister to the Polpo in Greenwich, Connecticut, and Angle, an upscale steakhouse with seafood that features among its seating a communal underlit onyx-and-amber table.
