Post Politics Editor Antonio Fins, the 'Hardest Working Man in Political Journalism'

A week in the life of the 'Hardest Working Man in Political Journalism'

Early on in his career, R&B music legend James Brown earned the title of "Hardest Working Man in Show Business" due to his legendary live performances and tireless work ethic.

These days, Palm Beach Post Political Editor Antonio Fins is making his own case for the title, the "Hardest Working Man in Political Journalism."

Fins has penned nearly 300 bylined stories so far this year covering former President Donald Trump, as well as any number of local, state and national political issues important, relevant or interesting to our local readers. (Not to mention all of the Business-related coverage that he oversees).

Fins is a 30-plus-year veteran of Florida journalism, and it shows in just about everything that he does. From what to cover to how to cover it and write about it. For example, reporting on the comings and goings and sayings of the former president has worn down many a seasoned scribe in this industry. But Fins does so with the same energy, enthusiasm and open-mindedness that he started with when Trump came down that escalator to announce his first Republican Party candidacy in 2015. Trump was, and is a "local" story for the Post and the Palm Beach Daily News . And that's how Fins insists that we cover him.

Take this past week. On Saturday, Aug. 31, after speaking with GOP supporters, Fins reported what a lot of folks had been wondering since Democratic presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, got the nod: "Is Trump's schtick wearing thin?" The answer, according to various new polls, is yes.

" A military veteran, entrepreneur, small businessman and two-time Donald Trump voter, Brett Husselbaugh has a resume that seemed tailored for one of the everyday Americans speaking slots featured at the Republican National Convention in July.

Except that the St. Petersburg resident is no longer a Republican. And he is voting for Democrat Kamala Harris .

What soured him on the three-peat GOP presidential nominee? In a word, Trump's behavior. ..."

Next, he slipped in a couple of stories on Barron Trump and former first daughter Ivanka Trump . He followed those with a breaking news on both the Trump and Harris campaigns running dueling ads in the West Palm Beach media market . Then, the surprising announcement and coverage of the launch (from Boynton Beach) of a 50-stop bus tour by the Harris-Walz campaign highlighting the state's fight over reproductive rights.

And finally, from the "You can't make this stuff up" grouping, Fins closed out a frantic week with this:

Nixon plumbers they weren't, and whoever pranked a Republican National Committee office in West Palm Beach with "chirping" noisemakers has yet to be caught.

The caper began Aug. 29 when West Palm Beach Police were called to the Republican Party office at 1555 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd., where some media has reported also house former President Donald Trump's campaign operations. The individual who called the law enforcement agency said employees there had found "potential listening devices." ... "

Fins is one of dozens of Post staffers who work hard to bring our readers the news. Continue to look for his coverage through the Nov. 5 election. Meanwhile, please check out more of our staff's work from the past week below.

I hope you enjoy and continue to support local journalism.
