Tua Tagovailoa should consider retirement, says ex-Miami Dolphins teammate Ryan Fitzpatrick

The former NFL players who worked Thursday night's Bills-Dolphins game for Amazon Prime agreed on one thing in the aftermath of Buffalo's 31-10 victory .

Tua Tagovailoa should retire after the quarterback's latest concussion knocked him out of the game in the third quarter.

Ryan Fitzpatrick , who was a teammate of Tua's in Miami during the 2020 season, said it was so sad to see this after everything good that happened to Tagovailoa leading up to the 2024 season, including his record contract .

"If I'm him, I'm seriously considering retiring from football. If that was my son, it might be time," Fitzpatrick said. "I'm not a doctor, but (a concussion) is when your brain is really shutting off. It's happened a couple of times."

Fitzpatrick later said it's a decision that should not be made too quickly.

"Hit pause, give it some time. See how we’re feeling," he said. "He's such a delightful human being. He has two little babies at home. That brings a different element into it."

Richard Sherman said something like this is deeper than a football game. "I hope he gets to do whatever he wants to do. You always want to keep going," the former All-Pro cornerback said.

Tony Gonzalez, a Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end, said retiring is a no-brainer. "This is something that can affect you long term," he said. "For me, it's time to move on."

Bills quarterback Josh Allen was asked about Tagovailoa during his post-game interview.

“If you know Tua outside of football, like I do and you do, you can’t help but feel for him," he said. "He's a great football player, but he's an even greater human being. He's one of the best humans on the planet. I got a lot of love for him.

"I’m praying for him and his family and I hope everything's OK. It's tough, man. This game of football that we play, it's got its highs and it's got its lows, and that's definitely one of the lows.”
