Miami Dolphins' Tyler Huntley, aka 'Snoop,' focusing on this before Monday Night Football

MIAMI GARDENS — When Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach Darrell Bevell watched Tyler "Snoop" Huntley's film, he was impressed by what he saw of Snoop's passing.

"I think it was a little bit underrated in some of the things that he can do as a passer," Bevell said Friday. "Because I think all the stuff that's talked about all the time is the things that he can do with his legs. And you know, which is exciting to have, but I was really excited what he could do as a thrower."

Huntley, a 26-year-old from Dania Beach, could start for the Dolphins on "Monday Night Football" against the Tennessee Titans.

Huntley was 3-6 as a starter for the Ravens, but did post a solid 64.6 completion percentage. He arrived in Miami only 10 days ago.

"I've been excited about Snoop and getting here just in terms of the process that he's gone through," Bevell said. "I mean, it's not an easy task to learn an offense that's really this verbose. Plays are plays, but there's the way you call them and things that we do. He's really come in and just kind of sunk his teeth into it, worked really hard at gaining the knowledge that he needs to have to be able to go out there on the field."

Huntley could start because Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is on injured reserve, Skylar Thompson has a ribs injury and Tim Boyle did not lead a touchdown drive in relief at Seattle.

It's possible Huntley could provide a spark to an offense that hasn't scored a touchdown in seven quarters.

It's also obvious that Miami would need to tweak its offense for Huntley. Notably, we could see some zone reads or sprint-outs or draws.

Without a doubt, it would be a simplified game plan.

"Well the good thing is that the game plans, that we're in game-plan weeks, you know it's different than training camp because training camp you just, you really throw the whole thing at them, you've got the whole encyclopedia," Bevell said. "Specifically during a game week, they're able to draw on just a more limited number of plays, and although it's still big, it's definitely limited. So you're able to focus in a little bit more on the details and the things that you need for those specific plays rather than teaching concepts and big parts of your offense."

Bevell noted that the timing and footwork in the Dolphins' offense is different than the footwork and timing Huntley used in Baltimore.

"So we have a timing offense with motions," Bevell said. "So those are one of the things that you have to kind of get dialed in. The footwork, I think, is very critical."

Bevell noted that head coach Mike McDaniel will often huddle with his starting quarterback at the end of the week to drill down on a few of the the plays they feel best about.

"I've had these experiences before where the coach can say, 'This is a great play,' " Bevell said. "And the quarterback's like, 'I don't know.' And you're like, 'No, it's a great play.' And you call it, and it doesn't work very well. And you can have it exactly the opposite with the quarterbacks. 'I love this play.' And the coach is like, 'There's no way this play is working.' The quarterback has a feel for it and those are the plays that work. So I think it's important to listen to those guys."
