The Dish: Brazilian Court DJ offers peppy vibe for summer diners

Signature cocktails and the singular vibe of the storied 1920s-founded Brazilian Court may be reasons enough to visit the hotel’s lounge area this summer, but here’s another reason, especially if you appreciate musical entertainment: DJ Daniel Moon.

With an always-changing playlist of crowd-pleasers — from original classics and remixes to new music — Moon currently is on deck at The Brazilian Court one Friday a month through October before a season-long weekly gig at the hotel.

For now, mark your summer calendar: His planned dates are July 26, Aug. 23, Sept. 27 and Oct. 18.

Find him just outside the entrance to the hotel’s main restaurant, Café Boulud, which has been a draw all its own for 20-plus years in its perch not far from The Brazilian Court’s historic fountain courtyards.

Moon usually starts his sets at 9 p.m. and continues to midnight.

“I love The Brazilian Court’s ambiance — it’s like nothing else,” Moon, who started his career in London before moving to New York, said earlier this month about the hotel, which debuted in 1926.

“The space where I am (near Café Boulud’s hostess station) is perfect,” he said. “People can relax and enjoy good drinks, come after dinner or take a seat at the bar or walk outside onto the beautiful courtyard.”

His playlists change depending on who’s gathered to listen and groove, but tunes generally start on the laidback side — perhaps such songs as Elvis’ “Pocketful of Rainbows” — and then slowly ramp up to louder dance and party music.

“I like to play what a lot of people will know and love but maybe in a remix that’s different and fun, like Wuki’s ‘Sunshine (otherwise known as ‘My Girl’),’” Moon said.

Moon draws a diverse crowd, he noted, including Brazilian Court and Café Boulud guests, Palm Beach residents of various ages and others who also may know Moon, his wife Dayna (who runs an area influencer-marketing business) and their two young children.

“I always see familiar faces when I’m at The Brazilian Court,” said Moon, who started DJ’ing there in January after moving from Miami to West Palm Beach with his family. “We love Palm Beach and are happy to be here.”
