Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center has your urological health needs covered by offering some of the latest technologies and treatment options. Our board-certified urologists are here to serve the community. Urology focuses on diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders and diseases affecting the urinary tract system in both males and females, as well as the male reproductive organs. At PBGMC, we can treat every aspect of urology, from infertility to robotic oncology.

Common urological cancer sites include the kidneys, bladder, testicles, ureters, and the prostate gland. According to the American Urological Association, the benefits of screening include finding and treating prostate cancer before it has metastasized outside of the prostate. The Urology Care Foundation generally recommends prostate cancer screening for men between the ages of 55-69. Some men who are at higher risk for prostate cancer should consider screening as early as age 40-45. Talk to your primary care doctor and know your risk.

Historically, finding the exact location of cancer in a prostate gland has been a challenge. Conventional TRUS prostate biopsy techniques are referred to as “blind” biopsies since physicians typically cannot easily view the specific location of any abnormal tissue. Now, using the Artemis 3D imaging and navigation system, our team can better identify and more accurately biopsy suspicious prostate cancer areas.

Testicular cancer can affect males at any age, but it is most often found in men aged 15 to 44 years. Learn about the early signs of the disease and how to do a testicular self-exam and talk with your doctor if there is a suspicious lump, swelling or pain in the area.

PBGMC also offers Aquablation, a therapy to treat lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). BPH, or an enlarged prostate, is a non-cancerous condition in which the prostate has grown to be larger than normal. One in 2 men ages 51 to 60 have BPH, and the incidence increases every decade of life. If left untreated, BPH can cause significant health problems, including irreversible bladder or kidney damage, bladder stones, and incontinence. Other BPH surgical treatments offer either a high degree of symptom relief with high rates of irreversible complications (such as incontinence, erectile dysfunction, or ejaculatory dysfunction) or a low degree of symptom relief with low rates of irreversible complications.

Aquablation therapy is an advanced, minimally invasive treatment for BPH that uses the power of water delivered with robotic precision to provide best-inclass and long-lasting symptom relief with low rates of irreversible complications, regardless of prostate size or shape.

In addition to the prostate, our surgeons can perform urologic procedures of the bladder, kidneys, adrenal glands or ureters robotically with the Da Vinci Xi robot. The robot allows patients to have these complex surgeries done by our dedicated, trained surgeons and staff, giving them the highest quality of care and surgical outcomes for any of their oncologic or reconstructive needs.

We are also here for your emergent and urgent care in urology. We are on standby seven days a week, laser-ready, to treat the more common issues, like kidney stones.

“Not every hospital can say they own their laser to treat kidney stones, so having one in-house means that we don’t need to contract with a company to bring in one when a patient shows up with a kidney stone. We can get to work right away,” says urologist Dr. Sean L. Sawh, MD, FACS, on staff at PBGMC.
