On July 11, an individual brought several pups in two large crates to Pasco Animal Services in Pasco County, Florida. The puppies were reportedly found dumped at a gas station and rescued by Suncoast Animal League in Palm Harbor, Florida. Fortunately, the dogs are doing well, but the case isn’t being investigated yet.

Several puppies allegedly dumped at gas station, saved by Florida rescue groups

On Thursday, a passerby reportedly found two large crates full of pups in front of a Circle K. They brought the 16 puppies to Pasco Animal Services in hopes of leaving them there to receive the love and care they needed. However, its facilities have been under lockdown due to canine influenza , as some of their rescues were exposed to the highly contagious virus. The animal rescue group has been on lockdown since early June.

Since Pasco Animal Services couldn’t take them in, they asked Suncoast Animal League’s help. The Palm Harbor shelter was happy to help rescue the puppies found at the gas station. Unfortunately, they weren’t in the best condition. The dogs were infested with fleas and had scrapes and cuts across their bodies.

The shelter’s director, Rick Chaboudy, told Fox 13 that the injuries could be from the canines play wrestling. However, they could also have been caused by living in the cages they were brought in with wires poking out.

Chaboudy noticed the pups were most likely from two different litters, one of Pit Bull mixes and the other of Jack Russell Terriers . Fortunately, within hours of the shelter posting photos of the little ones, several people were willing to foster them. Moreover, foster parents noticed a positive shift in the puppies’ moods and personalities after they took them in.

However, getting them ready for adoption will be a struggle for the Suncoast Animal League, as vets are only available a few months from now. Thus, the shelter has decided to set up a spay and neuter clinic near its facility. Once the rescue puppies found in the gas station are fixed, they will be ready for a forever home.
