Three people suspected of participating in an attempted bank robbery were arrested Thursday shortly after fleeing the scene without any money, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

At around 5:10 p.m., police received a report of an apparent armed robbery taking place in the 1700 block of North Sunrise Way in Palm Springs. Police didn't identify the bank, but the only one in that block is a Wells Fargo branch.

The suspect threatened to shoot the teller if he did not receive money, but then fled the bank without any money into a waiting vehicle, according to a news release released by the department.

Local police used a license plate reader to identify the vehicle and shared the information with nearby law enforcement agencies.

Roughly two minutes after the call went out, Riverside County sheriff's deputies located the vehicle in Palm Desert. In the area of Monterey Avenue and Ramon Road in Thousand Palms, Palm Springs officers and sheriff's deputies collaborated to conduct a traffic stop.

A man apparently holding a firearm fled the vehicle when it was stopped. However, deputies caught and arrested him without incident, police say.

The firearm was determined to be a replica. A man and woman in the car were also arrested, according to the news release.

Police say no one was injured and no money was reported missing.
