Texas Inmate Exonerated After 37 Years
A Texas inmate has been exonerated 37 years after he was convicted of robbery and murder. Benjamin Spencer walked out of a Dallas courtroom yesterday after the judge approved a motion to declare him innocent of the crime. Spencer was convicted in 1987 after witnesses testified he robbed and killed Dallas businessman Jeffrey Young. Those witnesses have all admitted to giving false testimony. He was released from prison three years ago but had been waiting for a judge to make a decision about his innocence. He will be entitled to a payout from the state of Texas to compensate him for his time in prison.
