AUSTIN, Texas — We've come to another drought monitor update, and this week, we're tracking a much-improved situation across Central Texas. In fact, the Interstate 35 corridor, as well as Milam County, are no longer in the "abnormally dry" category and are no longer in a drought designation as a result.

The United States is stepping up to assist workers affected by layoffs at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin. The Department of Labor has awarded Texas more than $1 million to provide employment and retraining services for impacted employees. A WARN notice suggested 2,688 people were impacted by the job cuts.

A small Texas school district is facing serious budget problems as state funding remains stagnant amidst rising inflation. The Dallas Morning News reported that the Sunnyvale school district paid just over $300,000 for property and casualty insurance in 2022 and now is expected to face a cost exceeding half a million dollars, while the state refuses to increase the public school funding.
Texas Murderer Spared From Execution Over DNA Testing Concerns
Ruben Gutierrez was spared being executed less than an hour before it was scheduled to take place, leaving the victim's family devastated. Gutierrez was set to be put to death just after 6 pm on Tuesday, July 16th, 2024, but it looks like things have changed. His arguments regarding DNA testing in a lower court ruling led to an order to halt the execution by the high court.
