Palmyra graduate Gage Miller was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the third round of the MLB draft Monday afternoon.

Miller, who played the last two years at Alabama, was the 92nd selection overall and the fourth player taken by the Marlins.

A right-handed infielder, Miller led the Crimson Tide with a .381 batting average, 18 home runs and 56 RBIs this spring as a junior. He also had 12 doubles and two triples. His batting average was the third-best in the SEC, helped in part by a 16-game hitting streak.

In a pair of games during the NCAA Regionals, Miller was 3-for-8 with two runs scored.

Though he played most of the season at third base, he was referred to as a second baseman when drafted.

Miller played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Bishop State Community College in Mobile, Ala. He hit .391 and .397, respectively, in those seasons.

MLB Pipeline rated Miller as the No. 68 best prospect heading into the draft.

In his senior year at Palmyra, Miller hit .458 with five doubles, five home runs and 26 RBIs.

The Marlins have minor league clubs in Jacksonville (AAA), Pensacola (AA), Beloit, Wis. (High A) and Jupiter, Fla. (A). Miami is currently in last place in the National League Eastern Division with a 33-63 record.
