It’s Under The Stars babe….. Where we are always stoked to see local digs pop up in new visuals from local artists who treasure these Bay Area spots just as much as we do. For example, Fake Fruit, the Oakland-based post-punk outfit, that signed to Carpark Records, just released their second single from the album Mucho Mistrust, arriving in August.
Destiny Muhammad Quartet at Stanford
Virtuosa harpist, storyteller and improvisational pioneer Destiny Muhammad has turned the harp into an instrument that makes people of all ages stop and gasp, “I didn’t know a harp could do that!” Muhammad, who performs professionally and at enrichment assemblies in schools, weaves social justice work and African American history education (which is social justice work these days) with gorgeous music. Her sultry vocals and eclectic style draw inspiration from jazz greats like Alice Coltrane and Dorothy Ashby. Part of the Stanford Jazz Workshop.

This blistering heat wave that got down to business today is now expected to last for the next seven days, with Wednesday likely to be even hotter than today was. The wildfire situation is the most worrisome aspect of this, with evacuations underway with the Thompson Fire in Butte County, and city of St. Helena canceling its July 4 fireworks show because of the Toll Fire. Stowers Institute Appoints Dr. Jennifer Gerton as its New Dean
The Graduate School of the Stowers Institute for Medical Research has named Dr. Jennifer Gerton, as its new dean. Gerton joined the Stowers Institute in 2002 as an investigator. Her research focuses on chromosome organization and segregation and how chromosomes contribute to cancer, infertility and birth defects, according to the release.
