CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Cedar Rapids City Council approved the purchase of a valuable piece of downtown real estate to ease parking problems during flood wall construction. The two lots at the corner of 1st Street and 3rd Avenue SE have long been talked about for development of a new building, but it has remained untouched for years. Wahlert Baseball Nips Central Dewitt In 3A State Quarterfinals
The top ranked Wahlert Golden Eagles baseball team survived and advanced at the State High School Baseball Tournament yesterday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids with a 1-0 walk off victory over 8th seed Central Dewitt. The lone run scored in the bottom of the 7th when senior Brevin Hawkinson dashed home from third on a wild pitch. Hawkinson had advanced to 3rd by running after a dropped third strike and then throw to first, sliding safely under the tag to put him in position for the game winner with two outs. Despite an early error the Golden Eagles played some great defense and starter Foti Rigopoulous went all 7 innings, allowing only three hits, striking out 5 and walking none. Wahlert head coach Kory Tuescher.
Mustangs Fall Short in State
Cedar Rapids – The Mustangs were lacking offense tonight in the most important game of the year against the Dowling Catholic Maroons. Trevor Baumler was fantastic for Dowling striking out six and only allowing two hits and walking two in 5.2 innings pitched. Keaton Fenn was on the bump for the Mustangs and pitched well also, it was his control and command that wasn’t where it was all year.
