Bears general manager Ryan Poles attended the Week 1 college football opener of No. 14 Clemson vs. No. 1 Georgia on Saturday, ESPN’s Jordan Reid reported. The game, which saw Georgia come away with the decisive 34-3 victory, was the highest-rated matchup of the official start of the 2024 college football season. NFL teams often send scouts to multiple games a week, but there is obviously only one general manager per team, so it’s telling when a GM attends a certain game.
DePaul has new protest and demonstration guidelines. Here’s what has changed
A leadership note was sent to the DePaul community on Aug. 8, updating the guidelines for demonstrations on campus. This policy change has been in the works since Summer 2023, and follows intense protests on campus last spring. The “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” was set up on DePaul’s Quad for 17 days and eventually removed by the Chicago Police Department after a “stalemate” was reached with DePaul’s engagement team.

Woman dies after being shot in head while driving car on South Side, authorities say
A 24-year-old woman died Saturday after she was shot while in a vehicle driving on the South Side Wednesday night.The shooting took place at about 9:45 p.m. in the 1500-block of East 95th Street, Chicago police said.ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watchPolice said the woman was traveling in a vehicle when someone traveling in a silver SUV shot at her.The woman was wounded in the head and transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, police said. She later died Saturday morning, the Cook County Medical Examiner said.The victim has been identified as Emauni Ryhane of Sauk Village, Illinois.Police said no one is in custody. (Aug. 31, 2024) – Graduate student middle blocker Zahria Woodard (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) posted a team-high 17 kills to lead four UIC players in double figures as the Flames earned the FGCU Fort Myers Classic championship with a 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 23-25, 15-12) win over the host Eagles on Saturday night at Alico Arena in Fort Myers, Fla. FGCU was the defending Atlantic Sun Conference champion and was coming off a 26-win season and trip to the NCAA Tournament.
