PANAMA CITY BEACH — A Jimmy Buffett-themed community focused on easy living is adding more amenities for its residents to enjoy.

According to a news release from Latitude Margaritaville Watersound, the community has broken ground on the construction of additional amenities at its town square. This includes a "Workin' N' Playin' Center" that will boast a theater − equipped with a concession stand − for movies, shows and concerts, along with a variety of other amenities.

Located off State 79 north of Panama City Beach, near the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport, the community is geared toward residents age 55 and older. It is being built through a partnership with the St. Joe Company, Minto Communities USA and Margaritaville Holdings.

"The additional Latitude Town Square amenities will add even more exciting options for fun and entertainment for residents," the release reads. "There also will be a Hanger Workshop where residents can do woodworking projects or trick out their golf carts, as well as a Clayground Pottery Studio and Arts & Crafts Room.

"There (even) will be a Barkaritaville Pet Spa that provides grooming services and is designed to look like a doghouse. Additional sports courts will include three more pickleball courts, two tennis courts and three bocce courts."

The release notes the first wave of amenities at the town center opened in June 2023. They included an amphitheater, bar and restaurant, lagoon-style pool and fitness center.

The local Latitude is Minto's third Latitude Margaritaville location, with its others in Daytona Beach and Hilton Head, South Carolina. The local community's homes hit the market in June 2021.

As of Tuesday, about 1,848 properties had sold at the local Latitude, according to an email from brand officials. Of those homes, about 1,300 have been built, and more than 500 others are under construction. About 2,600 residents already call the local community home.

"The initial phase of Latitude Margaritaville Watersound is anticipated to include 3,500 homes," William Bullock, president of Minto's Latitude Margaritaville division, said in the release. "There is tremendous potential growth in this location and, based on the continuing strong demand for homes, we are well into design for the next section of home sites and amenities."
