BAY COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – Tuesday morning members of the National Marine Manufacturers Association and Suzuki Marine USA announced the launch of a new type of boat fuel exclusively at St. Andrews Marina. It’s called Hyperfuel Purfuels.

“What we’re seeing here today is we’ve got a brand-new high-octane ethanol fuel that’s coming to the center. So, its high-performance energy, and it’s going to give you more octane in engines, but it’s also just going to create an overall better experience out there,” Panama City Commissioner Josh Street said.

This is a first for Florida.

“I mean, here is a boating community that a lot of us are about horsepower, about getting out to that fishing spot as quickly as you can and so every little bit of extra water that you put into your boat is a great welcome experience. So, this being the first of its kind offered in Florida right now, it’s only sold in Texas,” Street said.

The ethanol-free 93-octane gasoline has the potential to reduce recreational boating carbon emissions by 30% less than emissions from 10% ethanol fuels. Suzuki claims it reduces emissions without sacrificing performance or range.

“You put in your boat, but it doesn’t impact the range. It doesn’t impact the performance. In fact, they improve the performance of a lot of the boats. That’s transparent to the consumer and they run great. They make the boats perform well,” National Marine Manufacturers Association member Jeff Wasil said.

The marine gasoline is hassle-free for consumers.

“They don’t have to change anything on their fuel and they don’t have to change or upgrade any parts. They don’t have to change the engine, nothing. They just literally put the fuel on the boat, whether it’s an old boat, new boat doesn’t matter. It’s a drop in fuel and it’s a really good non ethanol free,” Wasil said.

The goal of the groups is to offer hyperfuel all across the state.
