    Panama City Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire

    PANAMA CITY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – On Wednesday, the Panama City Fire Department responded to a structure fire.

    Panama City Fire Department officials said the fire occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. on the 1200 block of Grace Avenue. Battalion 1, Engine 1, Engine 3, Engine 5, and Tower 1 were dispatched and arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke and fire on one side of the building.

    According to a news release, upon arrival, the occupant had safely evacuated the residence before the fire department arrived.

    Fire officials said a primary and secondary search of the structure was performed and the structure was deemed clear. Once the initial attack and searches were completed overhaul was performed, officials wrote.

    Due to the nature of the fire, PCFD Chief II and Investigator I were notified and responded to the scene. In total 16 Panama City Fire Department personnel responded to the scene.

    The Red Cross was contacted to assist the victim and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

    PCFD would like to remind everyone to check their smoke detector regularly.
