PANAMA CITY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – Donald Trump is officially the Republican Party’s nominee. Trump gave his acceptance speech Thursday to wrap up the GOP national convention in Milwaukee.

It’s the first speech since the assassination attempt on him Saturday in Pennsylvania. Some people believe that experience has changed him, others not so much.

Trump’s sons, Eric and Donald Jr., both have commented on their fathers’s near-death experience. They said they believe it’s an instance that permanently changed their father and made him realize what’s important in life.

Florida’s CFO Jimmy Patronis agrees with this.

“But now he’s going to have a totally different appreciation for the fact that he gets to stand on that stage because he almost lost his life,” Patronis said.

He also believes America will see it too.

“I think America also realizes this, that this guy, almost literally sacrificed the ultimate level of commitment to the citizens of this country,” Patronis said.

    (R) Congressional Candidate 14th District Dr. Neelam Perry of Tampa shares that idea.

“I think the American public, especially after such a serious act of, you know, attempt to assassinate, has actually woken up more, American people who wouldn’t have voted. Well, now go and vote so that President Trump is back in power,” Perry said.

But is this a permanent change like Trump Jr. believes? Not everyone thinks so.

Concerns involving voting security become a major focus at the GOP convention

“I think the old Donald Trump will bounce back,” Delray Beach Delegate Charlie Whittaker said.

It remains to be seen how Americans will interpret Donald Trump’s acceptance speech, or if any perceived change will be permanent as the campaign moves forward.

Attention now shifts to the Democrats and their national convention in Chicago from August 19-22. It remains to be seen if President Joe Biden will win his party’s nomination, or if he’ll be pressured to step down.
