PANAMA CITY — A Bay District Schools student has been arrested and accused of posting a threat against a school staff member on social media.

Bay District Schools released a statement regarding this matter on Thursday.

“We know how terrifying these threats are for everyone involved — students, parents/guardians, teachers, and our entire community,” the statement says. “We want to emphasize that we are committed to keeping our schools safe.”

The district did not provide the student's age or school, nor any specifics about the threat.

The district did make one thing clear: Any student who makes a threat, whether verbally or digitally, will face law enforcement consequences and possible criminal charges.

Bay District Schools is encouraging parents to talk to their children about how serious this matter is.

“Please, take the time to talk to your children about the gravity of these situations,” the district statements says. “Encourage them to speak with a trusted adult at school if they feel angry, upset, or overwhelmed.”

“We are all in this together, and keeping our schools safe is a responsibility we all share,” the statement added. ”Let's work together to ensure that no more students are arrested or charged this year.”
