    Bay County football: Mosley and Arnold lead local teams in recent FHSAA rankings

    The FHSAA released the first of its weekly football rankings on Tuesday, switching to the FHSAA MaxPreps rankings instead of the FHSAA Power rankings. According to the FHSAA, the MaxPreps rankings will incorporate the same elements as the State Computer Rankings found on MaxPreps' website. .

    The FHSAA MaxPreps Rankings are based on game results submitted through each team’s MaxPreps account. These rankings evaluate a team’s strength of schedule (SOS), as well as the SOS of their opponents to calculate a rating for each team.

    Mosley (5-0)

    State rank: 35

    Class 5A rank: 8

    SOS: -1.45

    The Dolphins are undefeated and have faced opponents with a combined (7-16) record on the season. Mosley's offense averages 43 points per game and has outscored opponents 215-70.

    Arnold (4-1)

    State rank: 172

    Class 4A rank: 28

    SOS: -4.58

    The Marlins were winless a season ago, but have achieved early season success and are one of the standout teams in the Panhandle. Arnold's opponents have a combined record of (5-19), while the Marlins have outscored them 139-102.

    Bozeman (2-3)

    State rank: 267

    Class 2A rank: 35

    SOS: 1.78

    The Bucks use a combination of homegrown players and transfers from around the county to play a physical brand of football that has become effective. Bozeman's opponents have a combined record of (15-9) and the Bucks have outscored them 154-141.

    Bay (1-4)

    State rank: 333

    Class 3A rank: 42

    SOS: 3.58

    The Tornadoes have had a slow start to the season and have lost close games early on. The offense is playing complimentary football but has been outscored 133-127. Bay opponents have a combined (15-9) record.

    Rutherford (0-5)

    State rank: 369

    Class 2A rank: 44

    SOS: 7.39

    The Rams have faced the toughest schedule with opponents with a combined (19-4) record. Rutherford has lost three games by a touchdown or less but still has an outside chance of making the playoffs with upcoming district games.

    North Bay Haven (0-5)

    State rank: 449

    Class 2A rank: 52

    SOS: -1.40

    The Buccaneers have been through various changes in the preseason and during the year with the sudden firing of head coach Thomas Elliott. The team has faced opponents with a (13-12) combined record and has been outscored 172-22.
