Countdown to Kickoff 2024: 9 Days
9 | WR Josh Doctson (2013-2015) The greatest wide receiver in TCU history, Josh Doctson delivered the two most prolific Horned Frog pass catching seasons ever. A three-star ranked outside the top 1,500 nationally in the Class of 2011 out of Mansfield, TX, Docston started his collegiate career at Wyoming, scoring a touchdown against TCU as a true freshman. Doctson transferred home to the Horned Frogs the next year and sat out the 2012 season due to the transfer rules at the time. The leading receiver of the 2013 season, Doctson still flew under the radar as TCU missed a bowl with its worst season of the Gary Patterson era. After an FCS warm up to begin the 2014 season, Josh Doctson introduced himself to the national stage with a two touchdown performance in the win over Minnesota, including the iconic floating one-handed grab, elevating to insane heights above the Golden Gopher defensive back for the score. It was the origin story of a superhero realizing how to use his powers; Spiderman learning he can climb buildings. Doctson would go on to be the first 1,000 yard receiver in over a decade and just the second in program history. His 225 yards in the 2014 win over No. 15 Oklahoma State was one yard shy of Jimmy Young’s TCU single-game record. Doctson torched the Texas Longhorns and future Pro Bowl CB Quandre Diggs for 115 yards and a TD in a dominant TCU win in Austin. Doctson delivered two more scores in the Peach Bowl win over the vaunted “Land Shark” Ole Miss defense, powering the Frogs to a No. 3 final ranking.
