Gibson Fire burns near Silt
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - A brush fire took off Wednesday but is now near containment. Firefighters went to the scene of a two-acre brush fire near Gibson Gulch/Divide Creek. Crews with the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management unit went to the scene and an aircraft was also ordered to assist with the job. Colorado River Fire and Rescue was also called in to help because of the fire burning close to private lands.

GMUG seeking public comments on Auburn and Iron City mines
MONTROSE, Colo. (KREX) — The U.S. Forest Service is seeking input on addressing mine waste containing hazardous heavy metals from two mines in western Colorado. The Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison (GMUG) National Forests’ Ouray Ranger District began a 30-day public comment period on Wednesday to address a report of the engineering evaluation and costs for the Auburn and Iron City Mine sites. Three moose make their way to Northern Colorado plains
Three moose have wandered away from the foothills along the Front Range and are now navigating their way through the plains of Northern Colorado. Two cows and one bull moose have been spotted recently making their way through the small town of Nunn, east of I-25. First human case of tularemia found in Jeffco
Jefferson County Public Health announced that the first case of tularemia has been found in a Wheat Ridge resident.JCPH describes tularemia as a bacterial disease that is associated with animals such as rodents and rabbits, along with insects, ticks and deerflies. "While tularemia is rare, it is important for residents to be aware of the symptoms and take preventive measures," said Rachel Reichardt, environmental health specialist with Jefferson County Public Health. "Prompt treatment with antibiotics is effective, so early diagnosis and medical attention are crucial." Symptoms of tularemia include fever, non-healing skin ulcer at the site of infection and swollen and painful lymph glands. Sore throat, mouth sores, abdominal pain and diarrhea can be symptoms if the infection is caused by ingesting contaminated food or water. Health officials say tularemia can be cured and to see a physician if you experience any symptoms associated with the infection after being in areas where contact with wildlife is possible.
