Joanna Gaines opened about her emotional experience seeing her 19-year-old son, Drake , off to college.

The Magnolia Network star shared a photo on her Instagram grid from the day she dropped Drake off ahead of his sophomore year. In the picture, mother and son dressed casually while embracing outside what appeared to be a dorm on campus as the family, presumably, said their goodbyes and wished the second-year college student the best of luck before heading back home.

"Second year in college... saying goodbye doesn't get easier," the 46-year-old TV personality began in the caption of the heartfelt post shared on Thursday, Aug. 8. "Lots of love to all the parents sending their kids off to school this season 🤍."

Her touching sentiment was shared among many, with one reminding her, "But the blessing is seeing them grow!" adding that they knew exactly how she felt as they were "Sending off #3 this year. ❤️."

"❤️❤️❤️ it's the next season of life for our kids and us parents ❤️❤️," a second wrote. "Prayers for strength, comfort and guidance."

"It’s gut wrenching. But also so exciting for them," a third added in part.

"What a sweet moment captured! 💙," someone else declared.

Others couldn't believe how grown up Drake had gotten, exclaiming, "Wait, their oldest is going to college?! When did he get so old?"

Drake is the eldest of Joanna and her husband Chip 's five children . Along with the college student, the couple share two daughters, E lla , 17, and Emmie , 14, and two younger sons, Duke , 16, and Crew , 6.

In June, Joanna and Chip celebrated another milestone for their family: their 21st wedding anniversary !

Alongside some then-and-now images of the couple, the celebrity home decorator gushed over her husband and their long-lasting marriage .

"You've always had a way of taking a thought or a quiet dream I've tucked away, and helped me step into it and make it a reality," she wrote. "What a journey, a wild and crazy (yet somehow peaceful) ride. So grateful to God for this life we get to share together.”
