Starting on Thursday, Aug. 15, Taco Bell will debut a new, nostalgic test menu that will give fans the chance to “eat through the decades" with a variety of items that were popular in years past: the Tostada, Green Burrito, Meximelt, Beef Gordita Supreme, and Caramel Apple Empanada.
“Thanks to our rich history, we have a vault of craveable products our fans have become passionate about and we continuously explore ways to reintroduce the ones that deliver on the comfort and value they are looking for,” said Taylor Montgomery , Taco Bell's CMO, in a press release. “Now, we’re thrilled to unite two groups of fans: those who fondly remember these menu items and those who have yet to experience the delight of a Caramel Apple Empanada or savor their first bite of a Meximelt with this menu.”
Straight out of the '60s, the Tostada was on Taco Bell’s original menu and features a crispy corn shell layered with refried beans, red sauce, lettuce and shredded cheese.
Representing the '70s, the Green Burrito is filled with refried beans, onions, shredded cheddar cheese and a green sauce made with green chili, tomatillos, jalapeno peppers and spices.
A fan favorite from the '80s, the Meximelt comes with pico de gallo and a blend of three cheeses—mozzarella, cheddar & monterey jack—melted with seasoned beef in a tortilla.
The Beef Gordita Supreme is back from the '90s: a flatbread filled with seasoned beef, reduced-fat sour cream, lettuce, cheese, and diced tomatoes.
Finally, the most current, the Caramel Apple Empanada, which features a crispy exterior filled with apple pieces and a creamy caramel filling.
Unfortunately, the test menu will only be available at three Taco Bell locations in Southern California for a limited time. But the restaurant said it's considering bringing the retro items nationwide later this year.
