Katy Perry released a new song and an accompanying music video less than a week ago, and it's already receiving tons of attention–but not all of it is wanted, as new reports reveal a preliminary investigation into the makings of the visuals is underway in Spain.

In the video, which was only released on Friday , Aug. 9, the 39-year-old pop star is seen dancing her way through several night clubs of Ibiza and posing on dunes of the Ses Salines Natural Park, a protected area on the Balearic Islands.

According to a Aug. 13 statement from the department overlooking agriculture, fisheries and the natural environment, regional authorities have opened “preliminary investigation proceedings” into the parts of the music video that were filmed at the nature preserve nestled between the Islands of Ibiza and Formentera.

Several outlets, including ABC and BBC have identified the shots of the dune system in several of the scenes Perry filmed as S’Espalmador, which is described as one of the most ecologically valuable sites in the area.

Spanish officials also clarified what sparked their investigation and it's not an environmental offense, but rather, an alleged permit issue.

Tuesday's statement explained this type of production can be done at the park as long as it's authorized with a permit, citing a section from its the Natural Resources Management Plan which states "photographic, cinematographic or videographic" reports for an "advertising or commercial exhibition purpose" requires authorization of the ministry for the environment.

According to allegations made by the department, the production company responsible for filming the former American Idol judge 's video did not receive prior authorization.

The production company and Perry didn’t immediately respond to either outlet's requests for comment.

Perry's "Lifetimes" is the second single from her upcoming seventh studio album, 143, which is due out Friday, Sept. 20. It follows the July 11 release of " Woman's World ."
