'Godfather Part II' and 'Full House' Actor Dies at 83

John Aprea , the actor who cultivated a successful decades-long career in film and TV with credits including The Godfather Part II and Full House , has died. He was 83.

Aprea died at his Los Angeles, Calif., home on Aug. 7, his manager told TMZ . Members of his family were with him at the time of his death, the cause of which was not publicly released as of Sunday, Aug. 18.

Paul Carafotes , who acted with Aprea in the 1980s soap opera Knots Landing , paid tribute to his late friend on Instagram after hearing about his death. Carafotes shared a throwback photo along with a more recent image of his “old pal, friend Actor, father, husband, brother.”

“We had lots of laughs. We met on the set of CBS television show Knots Landing, 1987 Over 40 years ago. Many will miss this man! Rest old friend. I’ll see you on the other side,” Carafotes’ tribute said.

Aprea was born on March 4, 1941, in New Jersey. His first movie credit was in 1968’s Bullitt , after which he appeared in a handful of films, including The Dark Side of Tomorrow and Caged Heat , before landing a role in The Godfather Part II . Aprea played Salvatore Tessio, a business partner to Robert De Niro’s Vito Corleone, in the Francis Ford Coppola -directed film, which many critics consider one of the greatest movies ever made.

Aprea appeared in several other films during his career, which continued into the early 2020s, and developed a successful presence on TV with roles in Falcon Crest , Knots Landing , Matt Houston and many more.

Aprea also made multiple appearances in the family sitcom Full House , in which he played the father of John Stamos’ Jesse Katsopolis. Aprea reprised his role as Nick Katsopolis for the Netflix spinoff series Fuller House .
