On Aug. 19, the 21-year-old actress was photographed wearing an ensemble almost identical to the one worn by Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz in the original movie: a navy blue cardigan with a gold embroidered circle on the chest, a white collared shirt and a long plaid skirt.
Ortega accessorized with a brown purse in the shape of a book titled Handbag for the Recently Deceased (a reference to the guidebook given to spirits in Beetlejuice ).

On social media, fans praised Ortega for celebrating the first movie's "iconic" style.

Meanwhile, Ortega's mother, Natalie Ortega , shared a photo of her daughter on Instagram and a clip of Ryder from the 1988 flick.

The plaid skirt-and-jacket combo isn't the only Beetlejuice -inspired look Ortega has modeled on the Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice press tour. She opted for a black-and-white outfit when she appeared on Today , wearing a two-tone lace cami from Rebecca Minkoff with a black satin skirt and a black blazer draped over her shoulders.
The Tim Burton sequel, which premieres in theaters on Sept. 6, follows “three generations of the Deetz family," according to the movie's official description .
