Popeyes Piles on the Flavor With Its Latest 'Bold' Menu Update

A new menu item is coming to Popeyes and the brand described the addition as its "boldest" move yet.

As football season heats up, so are the wing flavors at the New Orleans-style chain, which called "dibs on being The Official Wing of Watching Football" while announcing a sweet yet smokey and somewhat spicy new option is set to touchdown at participating locations later this month.

According to a press release shared with Parade , Popeyes is introducing a brand-new type of chicken wings: the Sweet 'N Smokey Chipotle, which is different from the chicken-centric fast food chain's Sweet 'N Spicy wings that debuted last year, as its newest style is "perfectly coated in Chipotle chilies to add that smokiness & spiciness and finished with a hint of honey for a touch of sweetness to balance out the heat."

The new variety meshes perfectly with the brand's lineup of classic wing flavors, which include Honey BBQ, Honey Lemon Pepper and Signature Hot, as well as its more adventurous options like Roasted Garlic Parmesan and Ghost Pepper .

Along with the new wings, Popeyes said it has plans to engage fans of its food and football fans with exciting activations and exclusive offers.

“Football is all about bringing people together, and at Popeyes, we believe that great food is at the heart of those moments,” said Bart LaCount , CMO of Popeyes US and Canada, in a statement. “With our new Sweet ‘N Smokey Chipotle Wings and our commitment to being The Official Wing of Watching Football, we're making it easier than ever for fans to enjoy the game with a flavor-packed spread that’s sure to be the MVP of any gathering. But, don’t take our word for it – try for yourself.”

The new Sweet ‘N Smokey Chipotle Wings will be available nationwide at participating locations beginning Monday, Aug. 26. Popeyes is so sure fans will love the new flavor that the company is willing to give away six-piece orders of the wings for free with any qualifying purchase of $10 or more from the day they debut through Sunday, Sept. 8.
