King Charles Shares Rare Health Update Amid Cancer Battle

King Charles offered a rare update about his health earlier this week, and while he didn't get into the specifics, it sounds like he's doing all right.

The monarch traveled to Southport on Tuesday, Aug. 20, where he visited with the survivors of the July 29 knife attack that took the lives of three young children— Bebe King , 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe , 7, and Alice da Silva Aguiar , 9—and injured several others during a Taylor Swift -themed dance class.

A crowd had gathered to cheer him on as he arrived at the town hall, and he paused to shake hands with the public and entertain a few questions.
According to the Express , Linsey Hislop , 43, took the opportunity to ask the king about his health during his ongoing cancer treatment, to which he reportedly responded, "I'm not too bad."

The publication reports that he also accepted gifts from onlookers, with a young boy named Max gifting him a handmade red silk heart and a woman named June passing on crocheted pink hearts for Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte .

His visit came at the start of his traditional end-of-summer retreat to Balmoral Castle , where he arrived to much fanfare on Aug. 19, with a small ceremony held to welcome him, according to People .

The king has given little information about his condition since revealing his diagnosis with an unspecified cancer earlier this year, but has taken it easy when it comes to his royal duties, minimizing his commitment and allowing other members of the royal family to take his place as he undergoes "regular treatments."
