The Chicks' Performance at the DNC Sparks Mixed Reactions From Fans

Emily Robison , Natalie Maines and Martie Maguire , AKA The Chicks , surely felt the impact of their redemption arc when they performed the national anthem at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday, Aug. 22, over two decades after the world turned its back on the band for their vocal criticism of then-president George W. Bush .

Fans were left with "tears & goosebumps" following the performance, which found the three singers crooning out what some called an "amazing" arrangement of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Many agreed that "giving the Chicks this full circle moment after what they went through was an exquisite production choice."

"Beautiful rendition of the national anthem! 💙," another fan wrote in response, while someone else joked, "So we're just going to ignore the premeditated murder of Earl?"

However, some thought there was something off about the harmonization in the performance, with one writing, "Harmony was… not particularly great."

"It was the high harmony," someone else agreed, calling it "Off a bit in places."

"I think it was a monitor issue, honestly," they added. "They are usually great, so it isn’t a skill issue."

Others attacked them not for the performance itself, but for their politics once again, with someone declaring them to be "anti American elites." But most fans came to their defense, with one noting, "I remember that it was disgraceful what they were [put] through."

"Thank you to all who made it possible for those of us that have been beaten down (some literally) with the American flag to raise it again in hope and pride. Thank you," someone else emphasized.
