Star Trek is a mega-franchise and a pop culture phenomenon, but the unsolved question among its biggest fans is which iteration is the best? My elders are in favor of  the original, Voyager, Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, while my peers argue for Enterprise and Picard . When it's time for me to weigh in, things go a little sideways. I never watched any of the series, so when I said I liked Chris Pine playing the role of Captain Kirk in the newest movies , I'm immediately laughed out of the room.

With that being said, I’ve heard only great things about the original Admiral James T. Kirk, played by the one and only William Shatner . Because my dad says he’s the best Captain Kirk, then he’s probably the best Captain Kirk . Although I don't have strong feelings about Star Trek, I do have strong feelings about baked goods, which is how I found myself making Shatner’s cappuccino muffins in my kitchen. Here's how it went.

How to Make William Shatner’s Cappuccino Muffins

This is my first time ever making muffins , so I feel I’m well within my right to state, “I’m about to boldly go where no man has gone before.” To embark on this adventure, you’ll want to preheat the oven to 400°. Next, combine and sift all the dry ingredients together into a large mixing bowl and create a well in the center. In a separate bowl mix the egg, milk, and melted butter, then stir in the vanilla. Pour the wet ingredients into the well in the dry ingredients, add the chocolate chips, and mix just until the batter comes together.

Spoon the batter into the wells of a greased muffin tin or line the muffin tin with paper baking cups. For muffins with a nice rounded top, fill each muffin tin 2/3 full of batter. Bake for 20 minutes.

What I Thought of William Shatner’s Cappuccino Muffins

These muffins were great ! I never really knew what went into making muffins, nor was I ever really interested in finding out. But now that I know, I might make more of them. The muffins were soft, fluffy and the chocolate chips added a sweet surprise. I even brewed a cup of espresso to enjoy along with the muffins. I’ll definitely be making these again.

Tips for Making William Shatner’s Cappuccino Muffins

This is more of a personal preference, but because I have a sweet tooth I thought the muffins could have been a bit sweeter. The next time I make them I might increase the sugar. Because baking is a science, I'm taking a risk by messing with the proportions, but I feel like Captain Kirk would approve of such a bold move.
