Ted Danson Has a New Comedy Series Coming Out This Fall

Ted Danson is returning to the small screen with a new comedy. The Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actor reunited with Mike Schur , the creator of The Good Place , for the forthcoming series A Man on the Inside (formerly known as A Classic Spy ).

The comedy is based on the documentary The Mole Agent , which was a 2021 Academy Award nominee for best documentary feature. "Mike changed it to make it a little funnier," Danson previously told Parade . "But kept the same sweet heart part of it."

A Man on the Inside centers around a retiree who ends up becoming a mole in a secret investigation. "It's funny," Danson shared, noting, "You don't think of retirement homes as funny, but ours is!”

What is A Man on the Inside about?

According to the show's logline, Danson's character Charles is a retired man who "gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad from a PI and becomes a mole in a secret investigation." The Mr. Mayor star explained to Parade the show came from a documentary out of Santiago, Chile. "Somebody who had a parent in the retirement home was accusing them of mistreating their mother. So this private detective hires this older gentleman to be a spy and be in the retirement home trying to find out what's going on," Danson said of the documentary, revealing that Schur changed it to make their show a little funnier.

The Good Place alum pointed out, "It's kind of a lovely message about, you know, don't let go of your parents completely just because they're in a retirement home."
