'Welcome to Plathville's Kim and Barry Plath Experience 'Awkward' Post-Divorce First (Exclusive Clip)

Welcome to Plathville stars Barry Plath and Kim Plath experienced an "awkward" and "uncomfortable" post-split first while filming for their reality show.

In an exclusive clip TLC shared with Parade ahead of the Aug. 27 episode, the exes put their differences aside to attend a joint birthday party for their daughter, Lydia .

"This is the first time that Barry and I have done a joint party for one of the children since we've been separated," Kim said during a confessional in the sneak peek video. "It's definitely a little bit awkward. But, I mean, I think it's important, you know, for Lydia to see that even though we're separated, Barry and I still both really love her."

Meanwhile, cameras watched the exes navigate surface-level interactions about where presents should go and when Lydia would arrive.

"Kim and I don't really mix a lot. That's kinda just the new norm," Barry told producers in a separate confessional. "It's definitely a little bit uncomfortable."

He added, "But it's for me, just setting aside all those things. You know, no hard feelings, we just move forward with the focus being on, 'Hey, let's make this a very special day for Lydia.'"

Kim listed her and Barry's date of separation as Dec. 23, 2021 in her June divorce filing, per People . After marrying in 1997, they welcomed 10 children: Ethan , 26, Hosanna , 25, Micah , 23, Moriah , 22, Lydia, 20, Isaac , 18, Joshua (who died in 2008 at 17 months old), Amber , 15, Cassia , 13, and Mercy , 11.

"I appreciate both my parents being able to be together in the same place and civil even though they're not together anymore," Ethan said in the clip. "I know under the surface, there's a lot of tension or feelings."
