The past year has been full of ups and downs for Lizzo , and now it seems the 35-year-old singer is prioritizing her own wellness and taking a step back from the music business.

In a video shared to Instagram on Aug. 25 from her vacation in Bali, the star calmly stood in the rain on a wooden deck while wearing a simple black swimsuit, surrounded by lush greenery.

"I’m taking a gap year & protecting my peace🙏🏾," the "About Damn Time" chanteuse captioned her post.

Fans were happy to see Lizzo taking care of herself, both mentally and physically.

"That’s the coolest thing ever, very mindful! Amazing to be able to look after your overall wellbeing," wrote one commenter.

"Ohhh I just took such a deep breath watching this 😍 perfectionnnnn," agreed a second person.

"And the body is tea hellloo 💕," commented a third Instagram user.

In August 2023, Lizzo was named in a lawsuit filed by three former backup dancers who accused her of discrimination, creating a hostile work environment, and various forms of harassment.

While the Grammy winner was quick to speak out against the suit, calling the allegations against her "false" and "outrageous," she seemed fed up with the negative attention several months later.

“I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet,” Lizzo wrote on Instagram in late March. “All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it."

She continued: "I'm constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views...being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look...my character being picked apart by people who don't know me and disrespecting my name. I didn't sign up for this sh*t—I QUIT."

Earlier this month, Lizzo praised Chappell Roan in a TikTok video for talking about her experiences with disrespectful fans, agreeing that these interactions are not what artists "signed up for." However, she also pointed out that setting boundaries is not "about shaming fans."

"This isn't about shaming people who want a photo with their favorite artist," she said. "This is a reminder that we're all human."
