Classic as it may be, there's always something new to discover about French toast , take it from us. In this year alone, we discovered the melted ice cream French toast from legendary French chef Jacques Pépin, Kings Hawaiian Roll French toast and French toast made with leftover hot dog buns from your summer cookout. Now the belle of the French toast ball is English muffin French toast —a sweet and easy way to start your day.

What is English Muffin French Toast?

This dish comes to us from Julia Mecey , a TikTok creator who always comes to the table with a fresh set of creative ideas. “Welcome to today's edition of Julia makes recipes from her head” Mecey jokingly starts off her video before casually walking viewers through the recipe for English muffin French toast.

English muffin French toast is as easy as it sounds. Swap out the bread you'd typically use for French toast for a split English muffin . Dunk the English muffin halves in a cinnamon-spiced egg mixture before frying them up in a skillet with some melted butter.

You can stop here and top the French toast with butter and maple syrup, but Mecey goes a step further and makes a quick berry compote for the dish. One look at the plated results in Mecey's video and you can see why this recipe is a hit.

How to Make English Muffin French Toast

Start by heating a skillet over medium-high heat. In a bowl, crack two eggs and discard the egg yolks. (The egg white-only version will give you a light, tender coating for the French toast, but you can also use the entire egg if you don't have use for the yolks and/or don't want to toss them.) Add milk, maple syrup, sweetener of your choice and a dash of cinnamon and whisk everything together.

Halve the English muffins with a knife or a fork then dunk each half into the egg mixture. Make sure both sides of the muffin are submerged entirely and soaking wet before removing from the mixture and placing into the hot skillet. Fry each side of the muffins until they're golden brown.

For the berry compote, place a saucepan over medium heat and your favorite frozen fruit, a splash of maple syrup and a bit of water. Cook until the mixture is thickened and reduced slightly, stirring continuously so the fruit doesn't burn.

To serve, place each English muffin on a plate and top with maple syrup, jam, yogurt and berry compote. Add an extra dash of cinnamon or top and dig in.
