Fans of Taco Bell’s breakfast might have to look a bit harder for their beloved first meal of the day as the iconic fast food establishment announces that franchisees can opt out of selling breakfast entirely. For many, the news might come as a surprise. This year alone, Taco Bell has continuously expanded its menu with a vengeance. And in light of recent releases such as the Cantina Chicken Menu, Cheesy Street Chalupas and the Nacho Fries, it seems as though breakfast just might have gotten in the way for some locations.

As soon as this October, Taco Bell franchisees will have the option to stop selling breakfast as a whole, a decision that was made based on feedback from franchisee locations themselves. Taco Bell told sources that the chain intends to give its operators “a choice to streamline menus” by allowing those locations to focus solely on lunch and dinner. And for those of us who might be worried our local will be affected, Taco Bell revealed that only a “small minority” of its franchisees will be eliminating breakfast from their menus.

"We are known for our partnership with franchisees, and this is another example of how the brand is listening to its people, taking their feedback into account, and making changes to support the overall growth of the brand," Taco Bell officials said. "Franchisees have expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying that they feel like their needs are being heard to flex their menu to better support what their community craves, while others shared that they look forward to focusing on other dayparts like lunchtime and the new Cantina Chicken Menu. This isn't the first time we've offered options to franchisees to streamline menus."

This year has seen a lot of changes for Taco Bell, and while the exclusion of the breakfast menu might affect some of the retailer's loyal customers, the brand is continuously working to improve its customer experience. Taco Bell says that they are “confident” in the breakfast menu and there are some big plans in the chamber for new breakfast innovations.

"As part of this breakfast reset moment, the brand will be ramping up its coffee program and continue testing new breakfast products in company stores," officials said.

Customers who have dedicated their breakfast exploits to Taco Bell can use the retailer's store locator to find out which locations will still be offering breakfast. And as for the silver lining of the entire breakfast changing scenario? All Taco Bell locations will now open at 9 a.m. or sooner to serve the menu in its entirety.
